Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Managed Word, LLC, doing business as Make Good (“Make Good,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, and protects information when you visit wemakegood.org (the “Site”) or contact us through it.

We keep this policy in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email us at info@wemakegood.org and we’ll explain it.

Who we are

Make Good is the consulting practice of Managed Word, LLC, a California limited liability company. For privacy matters, we act as the “business” under California law and as the “data controller” under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for information collected through this Site.

Information we collect

Information you give us directly. When you fill out the consultation request form on our Contact page, we collect the information you choose to provide — typically your name, organization, website, what you’re working through, the best times to reach you, and how you heard about us. When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address, and any other field the signup form asks for.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we and our service providers collect certain technical information automatically when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, device and operating system information, referring pages, and how you move through the Site. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies and tracking below) and through our analytics and advertising tools.

Advertising and conversion data. We run Google Ads to reach organizations that might benefit from our work, and we use Google’s conversion tracking to understand which ads lead to consultation requests. When your browser has consented to advertising cookies, this involves sharing certain online identifiers and activity with Google. See Advertising and conversion tracking below for what this means and how to opt out.

Information we do not intentionally collect. We do not ask for, and the Site is not designed to collect, sensitive personal information — such as government identifiers, financial account numbers, health information, or the special categories of data defined under GDPR. Please don’t include information like that in the free-text fields of our forms.

How and why we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Respond to your inquiry. We read what you share and research your organization before we reach out, so a consultation is focused from the first minute. This is the core purpose of the consultation form.
  • Send you the newsletter you asked for, and let you unsubscribe at any time.
  • Operate, secure, and improve the Site — including analytics that tell us which pages are useful, and security tools that protect against spam, abuse, and attacks.
  • Meet legal and record-keeping obligations.

Under GDPR, our legal bases for processing are: your consent (newsletter signup, non-essential cookies); our legitimate interests (responding to inquiries, securing the Site, understanding how it’s used, in a way that doesn’t override your rights); and compliance with legal obligations where they apply.

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, because we use Google Ads conversion tracking, our use of advertising cookies may be considered “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). Service providers and third parties

We rely on a small set of established service providers to run the Site and communicate with you. Each processes information only as needed to provide its service. The current providers are:

  • Google — Analytics & Search Console (via Site Kit) — website analytics and search performance. Google may set cookies and process technical data, including a truncated or full IP address depending on configuration. See Google’s privacy policy for details.
  • Google — Ads & conversion tracking — measures which ads lead to consultation requests. See Advertising and conversion tracking below.
  • WS Form — powers our consultation form. Submissions are stored so we can respond to you.
  • Mailgun (Sinch) — delivers our transactional and outbound email (such as your consultation confirmation). Fluent SMTP, the plugin that routes our mail, sends it through Mailgun. Mailgun acts as our data processor under a data processing agreement and maintains SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001/27701 certifications; mail is encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • FluentCRM — our email/contact management system, used to manage newsletter subscribers and follow-up. Contact collection currently happens on our sister site, leaderspath.org; if and when it moves to wemakegood.org, signups here will be managed in FluentCRM.
  • Substack — hosts and delivers our newsletter to subscribers. If you subscribe, your email address is processed by Substack under its own privacy terms.
  • Wordfence and Antispam Bee — security and spam prevention. These process IP addresses and request data to block malicious activity.
  • DigitalOcean — hosts the server our Site runs on. Server data and daily backups are stored on DigitalOcean’s infrastructure. DigitalOcean acts as our data processor under a data processing agreement, participates in the EU-U.S. / UK / Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and offers Standard Contractual Clauses for international transfers.

We do not permit these providers to use your information for their own unrelated purposes.

 

Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for four purposes: to make the Site work (essential), to understand how it’s used (analytics), to measure our advertising (advertising), and to remember your preferences.

  • Essential cookies are required for the Site to function and are set without consent.
  • Analytics cookies (such as those set by Google Analytics) help us understand how the Site is used.
  • Advertising cookies (set by Google Ads for conversion tracking) let us measure which ads bring people to us.

Analytics and advertising cookies are only activated according to your choices in our cookie consent banner. We use a consent management tool (CookieYes) integrated with the WordPress Consent API so your preferences are recorded and honored — advertising and analytics tags do not fire until you consent.

You can change or withdraw your cookie preferences at any time through the cookie banner or your browser settings. Blocking non-essential cookies will not break the Site.

 

Advertising and conversion tracking

We advertise through Google Ads and use Google’s conversion tracking to see which ads lead people to request a consultation. This helps us spend a small budget where it actually reaches organizations we can help, rather than broadly.

When you consent to advertising cookies, Google may receive online identifiers (such as cookie IDs and device/IP data) and information about your activity on our Site. Under California law, this may qualify as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not receive money for this, and we do not share the contents of your consultation form for advertising.

How to opt out:

  • Decline or withdraw advertising-cookie consent in our cookie banner at any time — this stops the conversion tags from firing.
  • Use a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser; we treat a valid GPC signal as a request to opt out of sharing.
  • Adjust Google’s own ad settings at myadcenter.google.com.

How long we keep information

We keep consultation submissions for as long as needed to respond and to maintain a record of our correspondence, and then for a reasonable period afterward consistent with ordinary business record-keeping. Newsletter subscriber information is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. Server logs and security data are kept for a limited period as part of normal Site operation. We run daily backups of the Site as a routine safeguard; information you ask us to delete will also age out of those backups on our ordinary backup cycle. {{needs-input: if you want to state specific retention periods (e.g. “consultation records for 3 years”) or a backup retention window, tell me the numbers and I’ll insert them — otherwise this stays as the reasonable-period language above.}}

 

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any email, or by emailing us. You can also ask us to access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you by contacting info@wemakegood.org.

Opt out of advertising “sharing”: Because we use Google Ads conversion tracking, you can opt out of the associated sharing of personal information at any time by declining or withdrawing advertising-cookie consent in our cookie banner, or by sending a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser, which we honor. If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request access to and deletion of that information, to correct inaccurate information, to opt out of the “sharing” of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To opt out of sharing, use the advertising-cookie controls described above. To make any other request, email us and we will verify your request against the information we hold before acting on it.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom (GDPR): You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time (which does not affect processing already carried out). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address above.

We respond to verified requests within the timeframes required by applicable law.

Data transfers

Make Good operates from the United States, and our Site is hosted in the United States on DigitalOcean’s infrastructure. Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. If you access the Site from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from those in your location. Where required for transfers of personal data out of the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards — including our providers’ participation in the Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses (both offered by DigitalOcean and Mailgun).

Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for organizations and the professionals who run them. It is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site or our practices change. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page; we encourage you to review it periodically.
